Russell. The registry fix in the KB mentioned above got rid of the error message but then the files just open as untranslated gobbledegook, as also mentioned above. Plz help if you can. - Finally at one point when I was looking through the gibberish that opened in Word, I read the word "Workbook" and immediately suspected that the document was in actuality an EXCEL
- I noticed the first two characters were PK which is indicitive of it being PKZIPped, so I renamed the file to .ZIP and opened it up.
- Instead, try to fix the Word file and get back your precious data.
- The errors appear on the back up too.
- Save somewhere, "open with" and select Microsoft Office Document Imaging.

It's just these 25 docs that I can't get into and haven't been able to figure out what happened as they are the same Word documents as all the rest that It is showing same option. Word should then be able to read it (assuming you have the 2007-2003 converter installed). navigate here You have to convert the document using Office 2007 or 2010.
