Simply insert a CD while WMP is running and it will be detected. Compatibility is one thing - but it's easy to get the original wav out of a FLAC file (if that's your thing).
Also, make sure Windows Media Player is pointing to a valid folder to rip audio tracks. The Music library will be restored and should now be valid again. Deleting and restoring the Music library will not delete any audio files contained in the folders under the Music library. There is no point in committing to anything proprietary (like Microsoft) and especially in a format with no support at all for metadata. This will tell EAC to look up the CD contents in freedb and fill in the artist album and track names. Me - I live for the best possible audio (and metadata storage) experience and WMP is not even a part of my thought process. The OP mentioned WAV during testing - WAV doesn't do tags and the file sizes are bigger, but it has better overall compatibility than FLAC.
